Israeli jets bombed several areas in southern Syria and near Damascus on Thursday drawing retaliatory fire from the ground, a monitoring group said.

Israel, as is its usual practice, has declined to comment on news reports that it was behind the explosion, Reuters reported.

However, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a war monitor based in London, said a missile hit a weapon depot believed to contain weapons for the Iranian-backed Hezbollah in the second wave of attack, after the 45-minute first-round attack failed.

"The Administration strongly supports the passage of H.R. 1677, the 'Caesar Syria Civilian Protection Act of 2018.' The bill would add to a robust set of tools at the administration's disposal... hold Syrian officials accountable for the slaughter of civilians and other atrocities", it said.

In Kisweh, "the depots that were targeted are used to temporarily store rockets until they are taken somewhere else", Abdel Rahman said.

'Shameful': Copa Libertadores final postponed for second time
Boca released a statement over four hours before kick-off on Sunday, calling for CONMEBOL to suspend the match and punish River . Boca fans could not attend the final at the Monumental de Nunez Stadium because of a 2013 ban on away fans in Argentina.

"Syrian army air defense intercepted on Thursday an aggression over the southern region and prevented it from achieving any of its targets", SANA said.

Iran and Russian Federation are the government's key allies in the civil war that has raged Syria since 2011, and Moscow's intervention in 2015 dramatically turned the tables against the rebels.

Israel claims that Iran's presence in Syria as part of an advisory mission requested by Damascus poses a threat to the regime's security.

Syria's Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad told Xinhua in September that the arrival of Russia's S-300 system would push Israel to reconsider before striking Syria again.

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Russian Federation his country would continue to hit hostile targets in Syria to prevent Iran from establishing a military presence across the border.
