Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi vows to become House speaker

Pelosi, now the minority leader, is the only announced candidate for speaker but a revolt of 17 Democrats would deny her the speakership during a House vote in January.
The letter already, reportedly, per a previous story from the Huffington Post's Fuller, has enough signatures to block her ascent to the Speakership, assuming its signers follow through on their pledge.
House Democrats will select their nominee for speaker in an election the week after Thanksgiving.
Fudge pointed to Pelosi's refusal to endorse in the race for majority whip, a contest between the current No. 3 Democrat ― and CBC stalwart ― Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.), and Rep. Diana DeGette (D-Colo.).
"And I think to some degree she is", Fudge said.
Fudge said Thursday she was "overwhelmed" by the support colleagues offered after she announced that she was mulling a challenge to Nancy Pelosi to become House speaker in January. "Who has she endorsed?"
Meanwhile, Fudge is out there stirring the pot, pushing for new leadership-and arguing that "racism" has seeped into the Democrat leadership under Pelosi. "I just said, 'Just win - just win, baby, '" she said. "We've got people who are in charge of these committees who are very progressive and I just don't see the need for the select committee".
On Thursday, Rep. Karen Bass, D-Calif., another potential challenger eyed by the "Never Nancy" Democrats, tweeted that she would support Pelosi for speaker.
Ocasio-Cortez thanked her and responded, "Honored to join an NY delegation of strong women changing the norm".

Later Wednesday, she said she was stopped on Tuesday night because "it was assumed I was an intern/staffer".
