  • Fears for Russia probe as Trump fires Jeff Sessions

WASHINGTON, Nov 9 - President Donald Trump said on Friday he had not discussed the probe into Russia's meddling in the 2016 US presidential election with Matt Whitaker before appointing him as acting attorney general, and it was up to Whitaker whether he wanted to be involved with the investigation.

McConnell, a close Trump ally who said Friday that he talks frequently with the president, insisted that Mueller's investigation into whether the Trump campaign coordinated with Russian Federation in 2016 is not under threat.

Rosenstein has been overseeing the Mueller probe after Sessions recused himself from the investigation, but a Department of Justice spokeswoman said Whitaker would be "in charge of all matters under the purview" of the DOJ.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says he expects President Donald Trump to nominate a new attorney general "pretty quickly" after Trump fired Jeff Sessions earlier this week.

Last month, Trump said on Fox News' "Fox & Friends" show that Whitaker "is a great guy" and said that he knew him but declined to talk about any conversations he had had with him about taking on the role.

Sessions had been an avid supporter from the beginning of the Trump campaign, but ran afoul of the President when he recused himself from the probe on Russia's interference after it was revealed that Sessions had had two meetings with the former ambassador from Russia, Sergey Kislyak.

"Trump's actions are being compared with those of U.S. President Richard Nixon in one of the most controversial episodes of the Watergate scandal, the Saturday Night Massacre", said organizers. "They held signs reading "#NobodyIsAboveTheLaw", "Protect Mueller: "finish the Russian Federation investigation" and "Mueller probe must go on".

Multiple injuries have been reported by both civilians and firefighters, Cal Fire spokesman John Gaddie said . The Woolsey Fire is not far from the Hill Fire , which quickly spread to 10,000 acres on Thursday.

Mr. Whitaker, who was chief of staff to Mr. Sessions, has expressed skepticism previously about the Mueller probe.

The Appointments Clause of the U.S. Constitution states that some senior government officials, known as "principal officers", must be confirmed by the Senate. He said Democrats were concerned about what the Trump administration might do next concerning the special counsel probe: "Anyone writing even a dime store novel knows what the next couple of steps are on this". "At various opportunities - in print, on television, and through social media - you have suggested cutting the Special Counsel's budget or limiting his authority to follow lines of inquiry".

World Patent Marketing now the subject of an ongoing criminal inquiry by the FBI, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday.

"This president's Department of Justice has done a fine job breaking the back of the opioid crisis...prosecuting some doctors, pharmacists and nurses...shutting down the dark web...certainly putting it to the MS-13 gangs and prosecuting many violent criminals, trans-national criminals", she stated. "Graham, I do believe we have the right to get a solid answer from him", she said.

McConnell said the Senate would begin work processing the nomination of a new attorney general as soon as a name is sent over for advice and consent.

Trump has repeatedly criticized Sessions for that decision, and the Attorney General's dismissal has been expected for a long time.
