  • Saudi Arabia rejects Turkey’s extradition request in Khashoggi killing

Asked about the whereabouts of Khashoggi's body, which remain a mystery almost a month after his death, Cavusoglu said that "as those who committed the murder are in Saudi Arabia, Saudi Arabia has a very large responsibility". They should answer my demand as this is not only a demand of a fiancee, but also of a human and a Muslim.

After days of denying any knowledge of his whereabouts, Saudi officials last week admitted that the journalist had been killed inside the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul.

"He [Jubeir] said we need to know what happened and it was very collaborative, in agreement", Mattis said.

Turkey is seeking the extradition of the Saudi suspects detained for the killing in the Saudi Consulate, which happened after Khashoggi entered the building on October 2.

Saudi authorities have arrested 18 men over the murder, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has requested the suspects be extradited for trial in Turkey.

"I am disappointed by the actions of the leadership in many countries, particularly in the US", she said. "Let's not let money taint our conscience and compromise our values", she told a memorial in London for the slain Washington Post columnist.

The Saudi minister vowed that the government will bring those responsible for the murder to justice.

Saudi Arabia is leading a Western-backed alliance of Sunni Muslim Arab states trying to restore the internationally recognized government of Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, ousted from the capital Sanaa by the Iran-aligned Houthis in 2015. "If only I knew that would be the last time I would see my Jamal, his smile, hear his laughter, I would have stood in front of that murderous team myself", she said.

Some of those implicated in the killing are close to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, whose condemnation of the killing has failed to ease suspicions that he was involved.

Gunman Robert Bowers , 46, was arrested at the scene and has been charged with 30 state crimes and 29 federal ones. Two of the six people injured were in critical condition. "I think people in my community are scared right now.

"This incident, this assassination, took place in the Saudi consulate".

Under mounting global pressure, Saudi Arabia has changed its narrative about Khashoggi's killing several times, recently acknowledging that Turkish evidence shows it was premeditated.

The body of Khashoggi, who was once an insider in Saudi royal circles, remains missing.

US President Donald Trump has said Prince Mohammed, who has consolidated control over Saudi security and intelligence agencies over the past three years, bore ultimate responsibility for the operation that led to Khashoggi's killing.

Earlier this month U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met the Saudi king and crown prince to discuss the issue.

Mr. Trump has hedged his criticism of Saudi leaders over Mr. Khashoggi, insisting he does not want to imperil a "tremendous order" of $110-billion of weapons he says will support 500,000 U.S.jobs - figures that experts say are highly exaggerated.

Turkey's foreign minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu, on Monday welcomed the co-operation between Turkish and Saudi investigators and said he hoped there would be no further delays.

"I believe the Saudi regime knows where his body is", she told the audience at the service, sponsored by the Middle East Monitor and Al Sharq Forum.
