Bolton to ICC Judges: Go After US, and You'll Pay

  • Palestinians reject Trump bid to force talks through aid cut

Her remarks followed reports that President Donald Trump's national security adviser John Bolton, in a speech he is set to deliver on Monday, will threaten ICC officials with financial sanctions and travel bans if they pursue probes targeting the us or Israel, and address the closure of the PLO office.

"In theory, the ICC holds perpetrators of the most egregious atrocities accountable for their crimes, provides justice to the victims, and deters future abuses", Bolton said.

Last November, the ICC prosecutor requested authorization to investigate war crimes and detainee abuse allegations against US servicemembers and intelligence professionals in Afghanistan.

The move comes after Palestinian officials urged the International Criminal Court to prosecute Israeli officials for "war crimes" throughout the region.

The United States is pledging to use "any means necessary" to protect American citizens and allies from International Criminal Court prosecution. Today, he'll say that "for all intents and purposes, the ICC is already dead to us".

Palestinian foreign minister Riyad al-Malki visited the ICC in May and called on it to open an immediate investigation. The United States is working on but has yet to release a peace plan for the Israelis and Palestinians. "Palestinian are disappointed. They have been let down by their occupation, the global community, and their own leaders".

The United States is not and never has been a state party to the ICC, though certain administrations have cooperated with its investigations in the past.

"The United States continues to believe that direct negotiations between the two parties are the only way forward", the statement adds. Similar measures would be taken against any company or state that assists an ICC investigation of Americans, he said.

The United States has made a decision to close the Palestinian mission in Washington in the latest move against them by President Donald Trump, a Palestinian official said on Monday, denouncing it as a "dangerous escalation".

More than 120 countries around the world are members, but superpowers - including the United States, Russia and China - have not signed up.

The U.S. "will always stand with our friend and ally, Israel", Bolton plans to say in his prepared remarks, the Journal reported, citing a draft it had reviewed. For months, progress on this front has been devolving, with Israel refusing to deal with a side that is beholden to terrorists and the Palestinians deciding willy nilly that the U.S. They have since rejected the U.S.as peace broker.

Set up in 2002, the court was meant to prosecute war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide.

The State Department is announcing the closure of the Palestine Liberation Organization office in Washington.

There has also been talk of adding "ecocide" to the list of crimes the court can prosecute, a move seen by Bolton as part of an unspoken agenda to intimidate decision makers in the United States and other democratic societies.

He has also sided with Israel on core issues in the conflict, such as recognising the disputed city of Jerusalem as its capital, while publicly asking for no concessions in return.

Then-Secretary of State Rex Tillerson deemed the PLO responsible for violating a provision in USA law that prohibits the group from trying to get the International Criminal Court to prosecute Israelis for crimes against Palestinians.

The Trump administration said that the PLO has not worked with the USA government in peace efforts.
