Le'Veon Bell Called Out By Steelers Teammates Amid Holdout

  • Steelers set to begin Wednesday meetings minus Le'Veon Bell

Wednesday started with the hope that Le'Veon Bell would sign his franchise tag and report to the team, clearing him to play in Week 1 and beyond.

The Steelers have the option of doing so.

Bell is now refusing to sign his franchise tag, which would pay him $14.5 million this season.

While rumors circulated a trade could be the only solution in Bell's holdout, NFL Network reported Thursday the Steelers will not rescind the franchise tag or trade Bell.

Bell reportedly turned down a 5-year deal worth $70 million back in July, just before the deadline to sign franchise-tagged players had passed, but promised fans that 2018 would be his best season yet. "I am excited for James, probably as much as he is for himself to get out there". "This is a team unit and that's how we play ball". You're a little mad that things didn't get done. We know right now his days in Pittsburgh are precarious at best. "Trust me. We still went out there and did 40 plays in practice and everything was good".

The Steelers used to be in the business of winning Super Bowls, but it's been a decade since they won their sixth Lombardi Trophy.

That's a scenario that's starting to make sense, especially after Bell's agent, Adisa Bakari, told Sirius XM NFL Radio "you can read in-between those lines" that wear and tear is a concern for his client, who had a career-high 406 touches last season.

I could see some sparks, but we sit so low we don't see so much but I felt that something was not right and it was pointless so I came in.

Center Maurkice Pouncey is particularly upset that Bell is playing games and not making it clear when he will join the team.

The Steelers had a team meeting at 9 a.m. Wednesday morning and Bell once again wasn't present. In 11 years as the Steelers' head coach he's never had a losing record; he's won at least 10 games eight times, and he won it all once.

"You can just chalk it up as an injury, next man up", Pouncey said. Samuels deserves a decent amount of work as a third-down back, and former Patriots 1,000-yard rusher Stevan Ridley will give Conner a handful of power relief. Bakari told NFL Live in an appearance Wednesday, "He's going to do the things necessary to protect his value long-term". "I think we are all kind of excited for what he can bring to this offense, this team".

If the owner of Bell in your league didn't bother with Conner, there's a chance you can still snatch him off waivers.

That's their way of saying, "You're it".

The biggest issue for Bell's teammates appears to be the lack of communication.
