"Millman's first top ten victory lands him a spot in the QF against Djokovic", tweeted US Open's official Twitter handle.

Djokovic argued with the umpire in the third set too.

Millman cursed himself for missing one set point but threw everything into a series of forehands to bring up a second and forced Federer into another error. "Definitely a player I've looked up to throughout my career", he said before the match. The biggest concern for Djokovic might well have been the conditions as the heat returned after a few days of relief. He wasn't in awe of the 20-time Grand Slam champion after a shaky start.

"I've got to control the controllable and the one thing I can control is the fight in me".

Lesia Tsurenko reached her first Grand Slam quarterfinal by outlasting teenager Marketa Vondrousova 6-7 (3), 7-5, 6-2 after feeling ill earlier in the match.

As Federer's serving went from bad to worse, Millman - who was growing in confidence - immediately broke again to level the match.

But that only delayed the inevitable as Nishikori kept his focus to seal the win and extend his ideal record against the German to 3-0.

"I think (Millman has) got a great backhand".

"I'm probably in a little bit of disbelief", Millman said in his on-court interview.

National Football League trade rumors: Jets deal QB Teddy Bridgewater to Saints
He started 28 games in two seasons with the Vikings, with a stat line of 551/851, 6,150 yards, 28 touchdowns and 22 interceptions. The trade occurred one day shy of the two-year anniversary of Bridgewater's horrific knee injury with the Minnesota Vikings .

The other quarterfinal on the bottom half of the draw will be a rematch of the 2014 U.S. Open final: No. 7 Marin Cilic against No. 21 Kei Nishikori.

The Aussie then held his cool to race to a 6-1 lead in the breaker before closing it out 7-3.

The 37-year-old Swiss had prioritised winning a sixth title at Flushing Meadows this year, but was far off the pace against the world number 55.

Federer wasted two set points in the 10th game, giving Millman a break chance when he missed an easy volley then double-faulting on break point. Millman beat Federer after a gripping four sets 3-6, 7-5, 7-6, 7-6.

She finally pulled it out when the No. 26-seeded Sabalenka double-faulted on match point, tossing her racket to the court in frustration.

Novak Djokovic defied the return of steaming temperatures on Monday night to make it through to the quarter finals, and was left waiting to see if he would face Roger Federer.

The defending US Open champion would not be denied and fired his seventh ace on match point to end the three hour, 20-minute tussle 6-3 6-3 6-7 (6-8) 6-4.

The heat, though, is much tougher on Djokovic, who showed the same blank expression, rosy cheeks and sweat-soaked shirt as during his first-round match last week.
