Meeting in Trump Tower Was to Get Information on Clinton

  • Donald Trump's friendliness with Russia's President Vladimir Putin has mystified Western observers

In an angry tweet yesterday morning, however, he attacked the "Fake News" media reports that he was concerned about his son's role. As we now know, Trump Jr. later acknowledged that it clearly wasn't just about adoption. There have been no reports that information about Clinton was offered or exchanged.

Trump Jr. and his attorney have insisted he has always told the truth.

President Donald Trump's attorney, Jay Sekulow, is blaming "bad information" on his previous claim that the president had no involvement in releasing a statement on Donald Trump Jr.

"The question is how will it be illegal?"

Sen. Rubio drew the ire of conservatives and Trump supporters in July when he said that the Federal Bureau of Investigation did nothing wrong by spying on Trump's campaign advisor, Carter Page. Working with a foreign national with the intent of influencing a USA election could violate multiple laws, according to legal experts. This was a meeting to get information on an opponent, totally legal and done all the time in politics - and it went nowhere. And despite Trump's public Twitter denial, the president has expressed worry that his son may face legal exposure even as he believes he did nothing wrong, according to three people close to the White House familiar with the president's thinking but not authorized to speak publicly about private conversations.

When the meeting was first reported by the New York Times, Donald Trump Jr said in a statement that he and Ms Veselnitskaya had mostly discussed a suspended programme for Americans to adopt Russian children.

"I wasn't involved in the statement drafting at all, nor was the President", Sekulow said on July 12, 2017. "I had bad information at that point".

"If I asked Donald a question, I said 'Donald, what time is it?' He'd probably tell me how to build a clock".

Israel Strike on 'Terrorists' near Fence in Golan Kills Seven
There was no immediate Syrian government response to the border clashes reported by Jordan and Syria on Thursday. Israel has been blamed for previous attacks on a suspected Iranian military base in the el-Kisweh area.

The report alleged Trump is increasingly anxious about his eldest son becoming ensnared in special counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation investigation. Sekulow said it was a simple mistake.

"The president has been clear that he wants to interview", he said. At that point, he said, Trump's attorneys would raise what Trump has alleged are Mueller's "conflicts of interest".

Former New Jersey Governor and Trump ally Chris Christie, meanwhile, offered a more tempered defense of the president's tweeting Sunday on ABC.

While "collusion" is not mentioned in US criminal statutes, Mueller is investigating whether anyone associated with Trump coordinated with the Russians, which could result in criminal charges if they entered into a conspiracy to break the law, including through cyberhacking or interfering with the election.

"The president can't distinguish between any allegations of conspiracy against his campaign and the broader problem of Russian Federation continuing to interfere in our elections", Schiff said on CBS's "Face the Nation". "Your campaign accepted. And the Russians delivered", tweeted Rep. Adam Schiff of California, top Democrat on the House intelligence committee.

Article II establishes the president's control of the executive branch.

Amid public uproar over the meeting, the president's son was forced to release follow-up statements, ultimately acknowledging that the meeting's true objective had been to get dirt about Hillary Clinton from a lawyer he had been told was working for the Russian government.
