The Junkers Ju-52 plane, operated by small Swiss company Ju-Air, went down Saturday on the Piz Segnas mountain above the Alpine resort of Flims in the country's southeast, at an altitude of about 2,540 meters (8,330 feet) above sea level.

"Based on the situation at the crash site we can say that the aircraft smashed into the ground nearly vertically at relatively high speed", said Daniel Knecht of the Swiss Transportation Safety Investigation Board.

Police in central Switzerland said that a small plane has crashed in a forest, killing several people. Most of the victims were Swiss but they also included a couple and their son from Austria.

Police said Sunday they had determined that the 17 passengers and three crew members on board the plane all died.

Mr Knecht said the vintage plane presumably did not have the crash-resistant cockpit voice and data recorders that more modern aircraft have.

Till August 7, the draft NRC is being made available to the people to see whether their names are there or not, he added. Many, both Hindus and Muslims have apparently established homes and businesses, schools, farms and factories.

The wreckage was discovered engulfed in flames, and the cause of the crash is now being investigated by the Federal Prosecutor's Office, in cooperation with local Swiss authorities.

The aircraft was a Junker JU52 HB-HOT plane, built in Germany in 1939 and now a collectors' item. The operator said it was saddened by the news and it had set up a helpline for relatives.

Ju-Air, a company which offers observation tours in the retro planes, said on Saturday that one of its aircraft was involved in an accident.

Initial investigation showed the plane did not lose any parts or break up before it crashed in the Swiss Alps. Its pilots are ex-military and professional pilots, all of them volunteers.
