  • Roseanne Barr disputes racist claims: 'I'm not that person'

Roseanne Barr just had to have the last insulting word.

"Roseanne is every gross stereotype I'm trying to get people to get away from", she said.

The actress appeared on Sean Hannity's Fox News show on Thursday for her first televised appearance since the controversy and insisted that she is not a racist. I never meant that, and for that I apologize. "I took a vow with my god that I would always fight extremism".

Co-host Sunny Hostin began by noting that Barr has been wildly inconsistent in showing how remorseful she is for comparing former Obama administration official Valerie Jarrett to an ape.

Watch Roseanne on "Hannity" above. Beyond her racially offensive tweet being "abhorrent" to the company's values, ABC executives had to realize that because there little chance of controlling the star of their biggest show, they had reason for knots in their stomachs, dreading more unwelcome surprises. She later added that the racism accusations particularly made her worry about some of her friends and relatives: "The thing that broke my heart the most - I have to say this - is that I have African-American children in my family and in my loved circle, and Asians too, and Hispanic people and ..."

'I never meant to hurt anybody or say anything about an entire race of people, which I think 30 years of my work can attest to'.

"I was hacked", Barr, 65, joked.

"I thought it was part of the - you know, what was put before me to do. But I'm not going to let them tell me what I meant".

The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) also offered its "full support to Mesut Ozil and his family". Fellow players have their say .

She added that her contract with ABC protected her from any mistakes she were to possibly make. She also repeated her claim that she did not know that Jarrett was black prior to writing the tweet.

"I'm so sad that anyone thinks that of me", she said, "but I'm not that person".

This is a developing story.

"That was what I brought to television and what kicked everybody's a** in the ratings", she continued.

ABC, which had been criticised for signing a deal with someone well known for controversial remarks on social media, was praised for its swift action in removing her.

"Could you do your job?" she asked Hannity. And I'm sorry that you feel harmed and hurt. "We just have a different opinion", she said.

But, in watching a once-great sitcom star fail to really explain the racist outburst that ruined her career, viewers have seen all they need to know.

ABC has since confirmed it will broadcast a spin-off called "The Connors" - featuring cast members including John Goodman and Laurie Metcalf - after Barr relinquished any creative or financial involvement.
