Guardiola took a season to adjust to life in England, but secured both the league title and the EFL Cup in 2017-18, and Mahrez has already been impressed by the Spaniard during their short time working together in training.

Manchester City fell 1-0 to the Bundesliga outfits at Soldier Field on Friday night, while Liverpool gave away a 1-0 lead in the 3-1 defeat to the same opponent at Bank of America Stadium on Sunday.

Mendy has been a cheerful menace by pranking the midfielder, with clips of City's japes - including hanging his shoes from the ceiling and throwing him in a pool fully clothed - going viral a year ago.

"But football, when you feel you are exhausted and the players don't follow you, even if I have the contract, I will speak with the people about it and we are going to find a solution". With the fantastic atmosphere around the dressing room it's really good to go out to train every day. "Liverpool fans should be very optimistic and very excited".

Pep Guardiola says he is not concerned by rival clubs spending money as Manchester City aim to hold off several challengers for their Premier League title.
