Giuliani: Other FBI agents likely texted anti-Trump messages

Strzok shot back, saying the question revealed more about Gohmert's character than his own.

During the marathon hearing, Democrats staunchly defended Strzok.

After she did not appear on Wednesday, House Speaker Paul Ryan said that "congressional subpoenas for testimony are not optional", warning Page that the House could move to hold her in contempt if she did not comply. Strzok has denied those allegations, pointing to an inspector general's report focused on the Clinton probe, which found no evidence Strzok's apparent bias affected his decision-making. Yet the messages are not proof of anything other than Strzok's personal feelings - and, in committing them to writing on company equipment, his poor judgment.

House Democrats accused Republicans of using Strzok to undermine special counsel Robert S. Mueller III's investigation.

He defended himself forcefully and doubled down on some of his most controversial comments in the texts, which he exchanged with Federal Bureau of Investigation lawyer Lisa Page during the presidential campaign. In one exchange, Strozk vowed to "stop" Trump. "No he won't. We'll stop it".

"If I could give you a Purple Heart, I would".

Strzok's opinions about Trump dominated his Thursday hearing, as GOP lawmakers took him to task over his texts and pressed him - usually unsuccessfully - to reveal information about investigative steps and decisions he made in the Russian Federation probe.

The pair put pride on the line with a wager on the outcome of their nations' quarter-final clash in Samara on Saturday. It was England's eighth set-piece goal of its 11 in Russian Federation , and the center back's first in global soccer.

"They behaved like children", Jolly said on MSNBC. He said the late-night, off-the-cuff text reflected his belief that Americans would not stomach such "horrible, disgusting behavior" by the presidential candidate. He said he had taken no improper action regarding either probe. "It simply couldn't happen". He was not going incriminate himself at the hearing to set himself up to be charged with obstruction of justice for improperly influencing the investigations of the Trump campaign or the Clinton emails. He described the texts as "hate filled and biased".

In the prepared remarks, Strzok acknowledges that while his text message criticism was "blunt", it was not directed at one person or political party, and included jabs not only at Trump, but also at Clinton as well as Sen.

"President Trump should cancel his meeting with Vladimir Putin until Russian Federation takes demonstrable and transparent steps to prove that they won't interfere in future elections", the New York Democrat said.

Strzok said during the session, convened by two Republican-controlled committees: "Today's hearing is just another victory notch in Putin's belt and another milestone in our enemies' campaign to tear America apart".

There has been no evidence of collusion with Russian Federation almost two years after the FBI began investigating the Trump campaign.

Democrats seized on Friday's new Mueller indictments to charge that Republicans were wasting time by focusing on Page and the Clinton email investigation when they should be investigating Russian election meddling. The closed-door session lasted almost five hours and was expected to resume Monday afternoon. But despite the generally complimentary mood toward Page, Republicans weren't feeling any warmer toward Strzok.
