Recreational cannabis to be legal in Canada on October 17, says Trudeau

  • Legalisation of the drug was a 2015 campaign promise of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau

Trudeau said the government won't discuss pardons of past convictions until legalization is in effect.

The legislation will make Canada only the second country in the world to make pot legal.

According to the MailOnline, each province in Canada is now coming up with rules for the sale of recreational marijuana.

The new law will not amend Canada's existing medical cannabis access regulations, which permit registered patients to grow or purchase cannabis from authorized licensed producers.

Trudeau's Liberals pressured the Senate to approve the bill this week before a parliamentary recess began, allowing the government to keep a pledge for the market to open by the end of the summer.

"It is our hope that as of October 17, there will be a smooth operation of retail cannabis outlets operated by the provinces, with an online mail-delivery system operated by the provinces, that will ensure that this happens in an orderly fashion".

The Prime Minister is also weighing via Twitter, saying it's too easy for kids to get a hold of pot and for criminals to cash in on it. Justin Trudeau says that will change.

Online tax ruling could mean $20M for NM
They had resulted in some companies not collecting sales tax on every online purchase. "This is a great day for South Dakota". Some popular "e-tailers" already collected at least some state sales tax . "Big victory for fairness and for our country".

The government's companion legislation on impaired driving is also expected to pass soon, said Wilson-Raybould, but she added that driving under the influence of drugs has always been - and will remain - against the law in Canada. Legalization of marijuana in Canada may complicate those efforts, especially since one of America's major concerns already is marijuana flowing in from Canada.

The bill was passed by 205 votes to 82 in the House of Commons.

Just last week our provincial bylaw in Quebec officially passed, and we were waiting for Parliament Hill to get their side of the coin together.

They will also be allowed to purchase plants and seeds from regulated retailers. By comparison, the minimum consumption age for marijuana in all the US states that have legalized recreational use is 21, corresponding to the higher drinking age. "We would like to commend the fearless advocates who spent years building momentum for all Canadians who participated in turning an idea into reality, this is your moment to celebrate". The Act has a built-in eight- to twelve-week buffer period after Royal Assent is given to allow provinces time to finalize the logistics of their legalization and distribution plans.

Conservative senators, however, were not as joyous at the passage of the bill and the implications for Big Pot.

'When you normalize the use of marijuana and you're a young person and you had certain reservations because of the simple fact that it was illegal, there's, I believe, a propensity to have somebody be more inclined to use it'.
