U.S. President Donald Trump's longtime personal lawyer Michael Cohen asked the Qatari government for at least $1 million in December 2016 in exchange for access or insight into the Trump administration, the Washington Post reported.

"I enjoy my law practice and look forward to prevailing on behalf of my client Stormy Daniels", he added, using the stage name of the actress, Stephanie Clifford.

The solicitation would be the latest such exchange offered by Cohen to be made public following acknowledgements by USA and European companies last week that they paid Cohen, who was Trump's lawyer for about a decade and self-described "fixer" for Trump.

Daniels claims she had an affair with Trump.

The Office of Government Ethics, which oversees the financial-disclosure documents, said in its own footnote that it had concluded Trump had to report the payment to Cohen in a section that detailed Trump's legal liabilities over the course of 2017 and the first half of 2018. "Mr. Cohen sought reimbursement of those expenses and Mr. Trump fully reimbursed Cohen in 2017".

A law enforcement agent leaked three government documents detailing suspicious financial activity by the firm of Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump's personal attorney, due to concerns that information on Cohen's dealings were missing from a government database-a serious red flag pointing to the possibility that files detailing possible criminal activity were intentionally covered up.

Trump's acknowledgment that he reimbursed Cohen puts the president "at the middle of all of the campaign finance violations", said Paul S Ryan, head of litigation at Common Cause.

The payment is under investigation by federal prosecutors in NY. The claim is the latest in a string of maneuvers that have bedeviled Trump and Cohen. All my communications show I was tenaciously trying to get a supertall tower built and nothing else, ' Sater said.

"What's happening with Michael Cohen and Michael Avenatti is a sideshow".

Avenatti is seeking to represent Daniels in a dispute in federal court in NY over material seized by the FBI in the Cohen raids.

The financial form, however, did not explicitly say what the payments were for. The disclosure was not included in Trump's 2017 filing.

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani insisted Trump disclosed the repayments to Cohen in this year's report out of "an abundance of caution".

The White House confirmed that Trump and Vice President Mike Pence filed their financial disclosures Tuesday, along with the reports of some 25,000 senior executive branch officials, but declined to comment further.

The group, known as CREW, had filed a complaint with the justice department and the ethics office asking for an investigation into whether the payment constituted a loan.
