Disney and Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War had a wonderful Mother's Day weekend.

Sans no competition from another tentpole, Avengers: Infinity War has topped the box office for three consecutive weekends, a veritable eternity in summer, when Hollywood tentpoles generally open one on top of another.

Melissa McCarthy's "Life of the Party" bowed with $2.9 million in eight territories overseas.

It gets better, too, as Joe and Anthony Russo's event movie to end all event movies is now the second-fastest to $500 million domestically, and the fastest to ever reach $1 billion globally. Opening in China this weekend the film made an estimated $200M - the second biggest opening ever within the country. However, if you are one of those who sat through Avengers: Infinity War without watching the previous films in the franchise and was not able to wrap your head around what exactly was happening, do not think you are the only one.

Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War has turned out to be a huge money-spinner at the global box office. "Life of the Party", directed by her husband, Ben Falcone, cost about $33 million to make and at least that much to market; it was marred by mediocre reviews and a B from CinemaScore exit polling.

Rounding out the top five this weekend are Lionsgate and MGM's rom-com remake Overboard, with about $10.1 million, and Paramount's silently spooky horror hit A Quiet Place, with about $6.4 million.

But in a respectable third place was Universal's "Breaking In". The movie also bowed in China this weekend, powering a massive $281.3 million worldwide haul. Meanwhile, Gabrielle Union's "Breaking In" launched in third with $16.5 million in 2,537 locations. And it didn't match the $19.5 million opening of Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn's Snatched over Mother's Day weekend past year. The film also enjoyed a solid weekend internationally where it brought in $2.8 million from 55 markets as it passed $100 million internationally with releases in China, France and Japan still to go.
