'Severe consequences' if Iran restarts nuclear activity, warns Trump

One of the main topics of Macron's trip to Russian Federation in May will be the Iran nuclear deal.

The US plans to impose new sanctions against Iran, which produces about 4% of global oil supplies, after abandoning an agreement reached in late 2015 that curbed Tehran's nuclear activities in exchange for removing US-Europe sanctions.

Many Iranian citizens are anxious about what Trump's decision could mean for the country's financial future.

Amano said: "Iran is subject to the world's most robust nuclear verification regime under the (deal), which is a significant verification gain".

"Iran is supporting the Houthi rebels in Yemen through its missile program, and worsening the humanitarian crisis in the region", a statement from Comstock said. Many are holding out hope-however slim-that they can maintain both their established American business and burgeoning operations in Iran.

Between 2012 and 2016, it's estimated the sanctions caused Iran to lose out on £118bn in oil money.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel says the US withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal shows Europe will face increasing responsibility to secure peace and seek political solutions to conflicts.

In this context, there is a massive distrust for Iran in the U.S. (and vice versa), and Washington has long feared what might happen if the Iranian regime developed a nuclear weapon.

Why didn't Trump like the deal?

He said: "Europe, and in particular the five countries negotiating with Iran, should clearly define their actions and stances to compensate for the withdrawal of the United States in the short time that is left".

Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said Britain had no intention of walking away from the deal, known as the JCPOA.

Iranian leaders have said they will begin enriching uranium again, in a move toward building nuclear weapons.

"If we achieve the deal's goals in cooperation with other members of the deal, it will remain in place", he said.

The lawmakers' anger is reflective of the feelings of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei.

The Kremlin said: "They emphasised the importance in principle of the JCPOA for worldwide and regional security, as well as for global nonproliferation".

Just a handful of the highest-profile European companies with plans to expand in Iran also employ tens of thousands of Americans in their United States operations.

Much depends on how Western companies doing business with Iran react, how Russian Federation and China attempt to exploit this crisis and whether European countries grudgingly go along with Trump.

China is strongly invested in the agreement, and it's unclear what effect Trump's widely-criticized decision to re-impose sanctions will have on its relationship with Tehran.

"We will respect the capacity of individual countries to make their decisions about foreign policy", Trudeau said Wednesday.

In response, Netanyahu said that "Israel fully supports President Trump's bold decision to reject the disastrous nuclear deal with the terrorist regime in Tehran". "Mr Trump hasn't got one". What it can do-and what Trump has promised to do-is attempt to force the deal to collapse by also imposing sanctions on countries that do business with Iran. But they warned there was a risk that deteriorating conditions in Iran would push prices to $100, a level not seen since 2014. It would not only have profound and negative implications for the Middle East; it could also undermine the prospects of denuclearization on the Korean peninsula.

If Iran goes back to its nuclear programme, other Middle Eastern countries - like Saudi Arabia - could follow suit.
