A clash between two groups in Aurangabad city of Maharashtra turned violent and left more than 25 people injured and two dead, of which one was a police personnel. To stop rumor mongering, the police has also suspended internet services. According to reports, several shops and vehicles were damaged in the Chelipura and Motikaranja areas of Aurangabad also. The police who arrived on the scene sought to bring situation under control.

Speaking on the issue, state Home Minister appealed to "maintain peace and urged to not believe in rumours".

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has been apprised of the matter Minister of State for house Deepak Kesarkar is hurrying to Aurangabad to accept stock of the scenario, an official stated in Mumbai.

Following the clashes, a huge contingent of anti-riot police was deployed in Aurangabad and section 144 (prohibits assembly of more than 4 people in an area) was imposed in the area.

Reports state a 60-year-old man lost his life as shops were gutted.

"Nine people have been admitted and the rest were discharged after being administered first aid", Dr Kailash Zine, resident medical officer (RMO), at Government Medical College, Aurangabad said.

Meanwhile, All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen President Asaduddin Owaisi appealed to Fadnavis to take strong action against the miscreants indulging in the rioting.

The worst-hit areas were Shahganj, Nawabpura, Rajabazaar and Angribaug which continued to remain calm but tense even 24 hours later.

Appealing for peace, Aurangabad CP Milind Bharambe said: "I appeal to the citizens to maintain peace, do not take law in your own hands". The youths from different groups burned some shops and also attacking each other with some pelting stones. After seeing the condition in the city, Maharashtra Police has imposed Section 144 in the city.
