North Korean leader Kim Jong Un shakes hands with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in this undated photo released on May 9, 2018 by North Korea's Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) in Pyongyang. USA officials said the release of Americans Kim Hak-song, Tony Kim and Kim Dong-chul removed a major obstacle to the summit, providing Trump with some tangible evidence that his twin-track policy of engagement and "maximum pressure" was working.
Trump scored an important victory on Wednesday when North Korea agreed to release the three American prisoners, a move that his press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, called an important gesture of good will before a meeting.

Pompeo said Friday that North Korea would need to have a "complete" and "verifiable" denuclearization. North Korean state media said the men, one of whom had been held since 2015 and the other two since a year ago, were arrested either for subversion or "hostile acts" against the government.
But South Korea's President Moon reached out to the North, reopening direct talks, and when Kim invited Trump to a summit to discuss disarmament the mood changed.
"If North Korea takes bold action to quickly denuclearize, the United States is prepared to work with North Korea to achieve prosperity on par with our South Korean friends", he said.

But remember this: just past year, Trump and Kim were both threatening to obliterate each other's nations with nuclear weapons.

The United States intends to make North Korea abandon its ballistic missiles and all of its weapons of mass destruction, including biological and chemical weapons, within a set period.
Mr. Trump has also played the disruptor's role in recent weeks and months by withdrawing the USA from the Iran nuclear deal, imposing sweeping tariffs on allies and announcing he's moving the US embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, which is claimed by both Israelis and Palestinians.
"So those were the initial steps that the North Koreans took". Carl Risch, the assistant secretary of state for consular affairs, and a doctor went to another hotel to pick up the men and bring them to the airport, the official said.
"It demonstrates how space data can complement a global seismic network for monitoring clandestine nuclear tests - and it provides information about the test site relevant for North and South Korea peace talks".
Trump once showed an interest in holding the summit in Panmunjom, where a summit of the South and North Korean leaders was held.
