Sensex marginally up by 8.18 points

The sensex registered the day's high and low at 35,388.87 and 35,136.01 points.

USA crude, however, topped the $75 mark for the first time since 2014.

The BSE benchmark Sensex made an impressive rise on Monday, gaining 293 points to close at an over three-month high of 35,208.14 while the broader Nifty regained the 10,700-mark amid mixed global cues.

The Sensex has so far touched a high of 35,061.56 and a low of 34,977.74 points.

Meanwhile, on a net basis, Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) sold shares worth Rs 635.24 crore while DIIs bought shares to the tune of Rs 1037.23 crore on Monday, a provisional data showed. The Bank Nifty gained 1 percent, helped by a gain of 7 percent in ICICI Bank.

On the NSE, the top gainers were ICICI Bank, Hindustan Petroleum and Eicher Motors.

Asian shares were mixed despite the strong closing on Wall Street as investors digested last weeks trade talks and U.S. jobs numbers. Losers included, Lupin, Dr Reddy, TCS, Coal India, Cipla, SunPharma, Tech Mahindra and HDFC Bank.

Oil prices retreated from three and a half-year highs as investors waited on an announcement by President Donald Trump on whether the USA will re-impose sanctions on Iran.
