US State Department confirms Trump's plan to visit Britain

  • Donald Trump is coming to the UK on Friday the 13th and everyone is making the same joke

Queen Elizabeth II may entertain US President Donald Trump at Windsor Castle during his short visit to Britain.

Sources familiar with planning details told CNN on Wednesday that the July event will be categorized as a "working visit", which consists of far less pomp and circumstance than what was seen at the recent state visit of French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte. Mass protests are expected to greet Trump's arrival, with organizers already vowing to demonstrate against the American leader.

"The US president said he did not want to come if there were large-scale protests and his remarks in effect put the visit on hold for some time", wrote the British publication The Guardian at the time.

While there is an open question as to whether France has an equally special relationship, the United Kingdom can still boast that Theresa May was the first leader to visit after President Trump's inauguration in January 2017.

Maz Saleem, from Stand Up to Trump, said: "Donald Trump is an open racist and sexist, a volatile and risky character who seems set on taking the West into further wars".

No Chance - Jose Mourinho Dismisses David de Gea Speculation
The Manchester United goalkeeper has been in stunning form again this season and was last week named in the PFA Team of the Year. But both men have reached out to him with warm words since he announced he was stepping down.

There is also speculation Mr Trump could seek to fit in a quick visit to the Turnberry golf course, which his family business owns.

"If he comes to London, President Trump will experience an open and diverse city that has always chosen unity over division and hope over fear", Khan added in the tweet.

The US ambassador to the UK, Woody Johnson, said the "thick-skinned" president would not be deterred by demonstrations.

The State Department retweeted the post of British top diplomat Boris Johnson that announced the visit, Xinhua reported. "He will also no doubt see that Londoners hold their liberal values of freedom of speech very dear".

According to Vice News, approximately 40,000 people said on Facebook that they would attend a protest in London against Trump's visit, while 100,000 others indicated they were interested. Many things could go seriously wrong, given the President Trump's notorious lack of adherence to protocol.
