  • Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday reiterated that justice would be served to the eight-year-old girl who was raped and murdered in a temple in January

In an earlier tweet she also said it was comforting to see the Supreme Court pull up the Jammu bar association for blocking justice in the rape and murder case of minor girl.

BJP National General Secretary Ram Madhav, who flew in to Jammu on Saturday morning, had a meeting with party leaders as well as legislators after which a decision to hand over the resignations of ministers Lal Singh and Chander Prakash Ganga to the chief minister was taken.

Ruling PDP government on Saturday thanked coalition partner for "support" in Kathua rape and murder and termed it as "confidence-building measure".

"Intolerance and hate are hitting at the country's core values and posing great threat to the pluralism, the only option for achieving the goals India has set out", she said and added that India comprises a composite culture and no one has domination in it. "Mehbooba Mufti should take action just like she took against Haseeb Drabu (ex J&K FM), whose crime wasn't this heinous", he said.

The Core Group also expressed serious concern over the unabated civilian killings in Kashmir and said the Government had "failed to protect" the lives of innocent civilians by abdicating its basic moral and legal responsibilities. He also defended both the party Ministers who had visited Rasana village in the first week of March to "cool down the tempers" of agitated local residents. This step will ensure justice to the family of the 8-year-old innocent. He later told reporters that the two ministers had been "indiscreet" by taking part in the rally, but denied that there was an attempt to sabotage the investigation.

Asked about the time frame in the culmination of trial, the works minister said: "We will try to seek justice for Asifa as soon as possible and that perpetrator are punished". The BJP government is trying to save the culprits involved in the case. "We do not need a CBI probe, we have faith in the investigation by the Crime Branch", said biological mother of the victim. "It is up to the court now to decide".

She used the occasion to plead to the Centre "to wake up to Kashmir cauldron".

The chief minister said that she was in constant touch with BJP president Amit Shah and Madhav as well as Home Minister Rajnath Singh. It will have to steer clear of past mistakes. "The Kathua case tested the durability of the alliance but we have come out even stronger", a senior BJP leader, who is also a minister in the Jammu and Kashmir government, told Firstpost.
