  • Juventus’ Gianluigi Buffon and Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo insists referee Michael Oliver was right to award Real Madrid the injury-time penalty which he dispatched to send his side through to the Champions League semi-finals.

Referee Michael Oliver upset the Old Lady's apple cart by signalling for the spot-kick when Mehdi Benatia nudged Lucas Vasquez to the ground in front of goal, before sending Gianluigi Buffon off for his inflamed reaction.

While the Real forward backs the official over the penalty call, the legendary keeper told Italian media: "It was certainly a dubious incident". "I don't understand why they are protesting".

"To award such a doubtful, or super doubtful, penalty just ahead of the final whistle and destroy the work of a team who gave absolutely everything you have to have a rubbish bin instead of your heart", Buffon said.

The Juve captain said after the game: "It was a tenth of a penalty". I know the referee saw what he saw, but it was certainly a dubious incident.

"I'm disgusted more and more with this football world, because when you make an effort like that, a referee can not give a penalty like that in the 93rd minute and destroy people's hopes".

Bayern, playing in their seventh straight Champions League quarter-final, never needed to hit top form against Sevilla but were in control throughout with the largely toothless Spaniards only rarely venturing into their opponents' box.

Narendra Modi, BJP MPs to observe fast to protest budget session washout
Modi said the Centre was working in tandem with the Bihar government for the economic development of the state, PTI reported. The ruling party MPs and the Opposition staged protests outside Parliament, blaming each other for the logjam.

"They told me it was a penalty, I didn't see it but the referee gave it and it can't be changed".

"Clearly you can not have a heart in your chest, but a garbage bin".

Many fans have been sympathising with the veteran shot-stopper, but one Juve legend has been critical of Buffon's actions last night.

"If you don't have the personality, stay in the stands eating potato chips with your wife and don't take on a feat like this", Buffon added.

"I don't think he deserved to be sent off", Zidane said.

Replays appeared to show Benatia touched the ball with a leg stretched around Vazquez, but the defender had also placed his hands on the back of the substitute as the Madrid man was poised to finish. It was going to be hard for us to not score as we had so many chances but the ball didn't want to go in.
