For their home opener, the Minnesota Twins brought a bald eagle to soar around the stadium as part of the pre-game festivities. In his lone start back on March 31, Gibson managed six innings with zero earned for a victory. Knebel threw a 95 miles per hour fastball for ball two, then stumbled to the ground and left with the assistance of trainers. No confirmation, but Paxton might have stolen eggs from this eagle. Instead, it picked out another target at Target Field. He said he did feel a "sharp pain", but there were no scratches.

Maybe the little guy was just looking for some of those Cracker Jacks everyone's always singing about; maybe he was trying to show a Canadian how majestic America's national bird could be.

German court agrees to release former Catalan leader on bail
Spain has accused the Catalan separatist of rebellion and corruption after he organised an unsanctioned independence referendum. A Spanish government source told AFP that Madrid "always respects" judicial decisions "whether they please it or not".

After all the pomp and circumstance the Minnesota Twins who were down early 2-0 showed fans their late inning comeback style and won 4-2. Then the eagle, named Challenger, landed in the grass before circling back to find a perch on Paxton's right shoulder.

Other players on both teams had a good laugh over the incident. Twins centre fielder Byron Buxton had no trouble admitting that would have been his reaction, too. "He wouldn't have a chance to get on my shoulder".
