"He's using all this campaign against Mexico as propaganda, that is the only way I can explain that he's trying to send military forces to the border", leftist Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said during a campaign speech in the northern border city of Nuevo Laredo.

The now-infamous caravan has not only made it to the president's Twitter feed, but it has also been prominently featured on Fox News and throughout right wing media - used to bolster calls to crack down on illegal immigration on the Southern Border.

Trump has warned about the caravan in a series of tweets in recent days, vowing to stop the migrants at the USA border.

Lopez Obrador said crime rates in USA border cities have been falling in recent years, as has the number of Mexicans seeking to cross the border.

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen on Wednesday cited a historic uptick in border crossings in spring months like April and advertising from smuggling groups as reasons for the move, calling it in part "anticipating".

Any loyal follower of President Donald Trump's Twitter feed may have noticed that he has taken up the cause of a "caravan" of migrants making its way through Mexico to the USA border. The Mexican government began handing out transit or humanitarian visas to the migrants in the caravan, and said the procession of 1,000 or so that drew criticism from President Donald Trump had begun to disperse.

Jose Antonio Meade, the candidate of the ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party who ranks third in polls, on Wednesday urged candidates to stand together in denouncing the deployment of troops on the border.

Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto scolded President Trump in a new video Thursday for taking a "threatening" attitude toward his country, and praising the Mexican Senate for condemning Mr. Trump's comments this week about immigration. "We will only act in the best interest of Mexicans", the Mexican leader said.

'We do not accept the construction of a wall on our border. The government said it deported some 400 people and would offer refugee status to others.
