  • CDC denies missing worker was passed over for promotion

A US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) doctor's body was discovered in a Georgia river after he had disappeared in February, police said Thursday.

Fulton County chief medical examiner Dr. Jan Gorniak, tells reporters that a body found in Chattahoochee River Tuesday has been identified as missing CDC employee Timothy Cunningham during a news conference Thursday, April 5, 2018, in Atlanta. Major Michael O'Connor spoke to media shortly after the department announced that a body found on Tuesday was that of Timothy Cunningham.

"Barring new information coming forward, we may never be able to tell you how he got to the river", Mr. O'Connor said. "During that search, we did not find any indication or signs of a body being at the river at that time". On Monday this week, Cunningham's parents told the FOX News sister station in Cleveland their son provided a clue 24 hours before his disappearance, claiming they received a "disturbing" text from him but wouldn't elaborate.

Pending an unusual break in the case, O'Connor said that the case may be listed as inactive soon - possibly in a month's time.

Cunningham was an epidemiologist in the CDC's chronic disease unit.

The Associated Press reported he had been distraught after being passed over for a promotion.

11 Alive reports that the information the Atlanta Police received came directly from the CDC.

It also added some more features like enhanced audio and I/O, Intel 802.11ac Wi-Fi and 10 Gbit/s integrated Gen2 USB 3.1 I/O. In addition, the introduction of new mobile chips could mean some tantalizing sales on previous generation systems.

Police had previously located Cunningham's keys, cellphone, credit cards, debit cards, wallet and passports.

Almost two weeks later, the CDC said that information was untrue.

The CDC's director in mid-March issued a statement denying that Cunningham hadn't gotten a promotion and noting that he'd been promoted in July.

"Tim's impact will be felt not only through his significant contributions to CDC's mission, but also through his influence on the lives of his colleagues and friends". He co-authored more than two dozen publications that centered on how health issues impact minorities, worked on notable public health crises such as the Zika and Ebola outbreaks, PEOPLE reports. "I can't tell you that he was jogging but those things together seem to indicate that that is a possibility".

"CDR Timothy Cunningham's colleagues and friends at CDC are deeply saddened to learn of his death".

Gorniak added that the condition of Cunningham's body is "consistent" with having been in the water since the day he went missing and there were no signs of trauma or underlying medical conditions.
