Still, the ESPN+ service, which launches April 12, promises enough as-they-happen games and original programming to give people who've already cut the cord their live sports fix. For $4.99 a month, viewers will be able to take advantage of thousands of live sporting events, original shows and films, exclusive studio programs, and an extensive on-demand library. (Blackout rules will apply for MLB and NHL coverage.) The service will also offer over 250 MLS games from the MLS Live out-of-market schedule, and thousands of college sports events from nearly two dozen conferences, including America East, Big South, Big West, Ivy League, and Missouri Valley.

While you may not be a sports fan, Disney Media Networks' plans for ESPN+ may have bigger implications for you down the line.

ESPN, the Walt Disney-owned media brand, says ESPN+ will be an integrated part of a completely redesigned and reimagined ESPN App - an "all-in-one digital sports platform for fans".

Near the end of 2017, ESPN's parent company, Disney, announced a new streaming app was on the horizon.

The launch comes as part of ESPN's major shift into the over-the-top (OTT) sports sector, which was sparked into life a year ago by The Walt Disney Company's acquisition of live streaming specialist BAMTech, which is powering ESPN Plus.

The first ESPN+ fight card will be the April 21 Amir Khan vs. Phil Lo Greco event in Liverpool, England.

SpaceX launches rocket with satellites from Vandenberg AFB
SpaceX said no such restrictions will be imposed on its next launch, an April 2 cargo mission to the International Space Station. After the launch, SpaceX said in a statement that it didn't have the proper license from NOAA to share live views from orbit.

College Sports - ESPN+ will offer baseball, basketball, football, gymnastics, field hockey, ice hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming volleyball, wrestling and more.

Keeping with the trend of 180 games, ESPN Plus will be the home to more than 180 National Hockey League games.

In addition to offering nearly 200 games, ESPN is throwing in some extra goodies. What it does not include is programming from the ESPN network. Not only did Minneapolis host Super Bowl 52, the Final Four, and the X Games, but our own, often beleaguered sports teams have been fighting there way to respectability as well.

The new services is separate from ESPN's current cable TV channel and programming, which will continue to be available via cable, satellite and telco distributors and through TV Everywhere apps.

The service is also promising more than 100 days of coverage from 31 PGA Tour events, hundreds of tennis matches from tournaments like Wimbledon and the U.S. Open as well as hundreds of rugby and cricket matches. Finally, there'll be worldwide rugby and cricket.
