Global donors today pledged more than US$2 billion to support the delivery of urgently needed humanitarian aid to millions of people in Yemen during a pledging event in Geneva, co-chaired by the United Nations, Sweden and Switzerland.

His special envoy, Martin Griffiths, will head to the United Arab Emirates, Oman and the Yemeni government-held city of Aden in the drive for peace, Guterres told reporters.

Impoverished Yemen has been wracked by conflict since 2014, when the Houthis overran much of the country, including capital Sanaa.

According to the United Nations, 8.4 million people are on the verge of starvation in Yemen, where food imports are essential to sustain the population.

The ballistic missile attack came hours after Human Rights Watch accused the Houthis of violating laws of war by indiscriminately firing rockets on populated areas inside Saudi Arabia.

Anyone who has a serious reaction to synthetic cannabinoids should call 911 or go to the emergency department immediately. The health department said Thursday that symptoms have included bleeding from the eyes and ears.

Guterres said he saw "positive perspectives" for preparing a plan of action "to lead to an effective inter-Yemeni dialogue able to achieve a political solution, with of course the involvement of all those that are relevant in this conflict".

Speaking at a high-level pledging conference in Geneva held to discuss the crisis in Yemen, Antonio Guterres asked donor countries to provide almost $3 billion in aid to the country where humanitarian access is restricted in 90 percent of districts.

Last week the Houthis launched a flurry of missiles which Saudi Arabia said it had intercepted over Riyadh. The UN said that blockade raised the danger of mass starvation, and it was then partially lifted.

"All ports must remain open to humanitarian and commercial cargo, the medicines, food and the fuel needed to deliver them", he added, emphasising the need for unrestricted access to the country as well as within it. "But with worldwide support, we can and must prevent this country from becoming a long-term tragedy", he said.

Hodeidah port has become a launch pad for terrorist operations as well as for the smuggling of rockets and weapons, Al-Malki said while stressing that the command of the coalition forces will take all the necessary measures and means to maintain security and stability of maritime navigation and global trade on Bab-el-Mandeb strait and the Red Sea region.
