  • People Have Found Facebook Logged All Their Private Messages And Call History

Facebook is going to limit how much data it makes available to advertisers buying hyper-targeted ads on the social network.

Facebook also announced Wednesday that it would be making its privacy controls easier to use-people will be able to delete their data from the platform and even move it to rival providers if they wish.

Now, many consumers, lawmakers, investors and privacy campaigners around the world have put the company - and its founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg - under pressure to explain themselves.

Facebook has overhauled menus and introduced various new features to its platform in the aftermath of the scandal, in an effort to promote privacy and regain public trust.

Many people on Twitter pushed back on Facebook for downplaying the metadata collection by saying that users gave permission. The company is also making it easier to download the data you've shared on Facebook.

Among the privacy setting changes is a redesign of its privacy settings for mobile phones so that they'll appear on a single screen, instead of spread across 20 different ones. It requires companies to give people a "right to portability"? to take their data with them - and lawmakers in the USA and Britain are still clamouring for Zuckerberg himself to explain how users' data ended up in the hands of Cambridge Analytica.

To comply with this, Facebook is adding a section called "access your information", a secure way for users to manage data they've shared with the company, including status updates, comments and things they have searched for.

Have a few posts on Facebook that you wish never made their way there?

"We've heard loud and clear that privacy settings and other important tools are too hard to find and that we must do more to keep people informed", chief privacy officer Erin Egan and deputy general counsel Ashlie Beringer said in a blog post.

They have also called on Facebook to improve its data protections. One can also delete anything from their profile or their timeline.

As for whether the changes to Facebook's data-sharing practices will help it comply with the GDPR, the devil will be in the detail, though the changes should reduce Facebook's liability if those third-party data brokers got their data in a way that doesn't comply with the law. A major reason why it might be scraped off is that Facebook has no control over how the data is collected in the first place. They stress that the updates are all about transparency, not about new rights to collect, use, or share data.

Prasad further said that a United Kingdom parliamentary committee is conducting an investigation and added that he did not wish to comment on the views of one of its members.
