"The heart of our strategy in terms of electrification is battery EVs and e-Power technology", Nissan Chief Planning Officer Philippe Klein told reporters at a briefing. The company is also targeting an 8% core operating profit margin and cumulative free cash flow of ¥2.5 trillion (US$23 billion).

"Our efforts are focused on delivering Nissan Intelligent Mobility, encompassing the three core elements of electrification, autonomous drive, connectivity and new mobility services", he added.

The ambitious goal, part of Nissan's " 2022" business plan, includes an influx of new models.

Introduce an electric "kei" mini-vehicle in Japan.

Nissan Europe design boss Mamoru Aoki described the production vehicle it inspires as "a breakthrough model" that will crack the mainstream - a key achievement for the brand to reach its new targets.

The Japanese auto maker said on Friday it would develop eight new all-battery EVs over the next four years, including four models for China, where it is planning to expand.

'Stranger Things' Teens To Get Massive Pay Increase For Season 3
Brown, arguably the breakout actor of the series, is said to have landed the biggest increase in salary. All four reportedly earned $30,000 per episode for the first two seasons.

Its Japanese rival, Toyota, had announced at the end of 2017 its intention to achieve, by 2030, at least 50% of its global sales with electric and hybrid vehicles (fuel/electric), against the 15%, at the moment.

Nissan expects electric and hybrid cars to account for half its European sales by 2025. Nissan will launch a C-segment vehicle - expected to be roughly the size of a Leaf - in China this year, followed by an "affordable EV" co-developed with eGT New Energy Automotive.

The company said fiscal 2022 is also the year by which it intends to incorporate internet connectivity in new models of its mainstay vehicles. This new affordable electric vehicle will be jointly developed by the Alliance and Dongfeng on an A-segment SUV platform. The range would be completed with two other models sold under the Venucia brand.

Alongside the all-electric cars, Nissan will expand availability of its e-Power hybrid powertrain, which is now offered on the Note and Serena in Japan. The company aims to sell 1 million such vehicles that year by offering them in 20 markets. It's unclear whether Nissan is talking about tech on the same level as the current ProPilot Assist system, which essentially combines adaptive cruise control with limited steering assist, or something more advanced.

Additionally, the "Move to 2022" strategy will also see the introduction of connected technology for all of Nissan's cars. A pilot program for that will begin in Japan within twelve months. Nissan's connectivity push will allow for over-the-air vehicle updates and the expansion of its "Easy Ride" ride-hailing service.
