  • Greek derby postponed as angry PAOK owner storms pitch

Sunday's Greek Superleague game at the Toumba Stadium against league leaders AEK Athens was locked at 0-0 in stoppage time when the incident occurred.

According to Ekathimerini, AEK have since accused Savvidis of "terrorism", claiming that the PAOK president yelled "you're a dead man" at referee Giorgios Kominis - a threat which carries a little more weight if you happen to have a firearm about your person.

What did the owner do?

Games were suspended in all divisions after referee's chief Giorgos Bikas was the victim of an arson attack in November 2016, while investigations into a match-fixing scandal that came to light in 2011 remain ongoing.

It is unclear what the repercussions will be for PAOK, though Greece's deputy culture and sports minister Georgios Vassiliadis said the situation required "bold decisions" to be made.

The freaky incident took place last night after PAOK's tense 0-0 draw with AEK Athens, which saw PAOK denied a late victor when the officials cancelled out a seemingly good goal.

But as he walked onto the pitch, it became visible that he had a hand gun placed in a hip holster.

Paok president Ivan Savvidis takes to the pitch carrying a handgun in his waistband.

An arrest warrant has reportedly been issued for Savvidis (not for the gun, but for the pitch invasion).

A statement on AEK Athens' website later confirmed that the referee had reversed his decision to chalk off the PAOK goal, apparently several hours after the players had left the field.

However, the committee upheld the decision to award last month's match -- which was postponed after the incident -- 3-0 in favour of Olympiakos.

The club was deducted three points - but managed to overturn the sanction on appeal - after Olympiakos Piraeus coach Oscar Garcia was hit by a roll of paper thrown from the stands at PAOK.

The Greek Super League Twitter account stopped tweeting match updates of the PAOK v AEK match at the 80th minute and has fallen silent since.
