New England Patriots: Grading the Danny Shelton trade

  • BALTIMORE MD – OCTOBER 11 Nose tackle Danny Shelton

The decision to trade Shelton comes a day after the team acquired quarterback Tyrod Taylor from the Bills, wide receiver Jarvis Landry from the Dolphins and cornerback Damarious Randall from the Packers.

The New England Patriots were able to strengthen their front seven recently with the acquisition of Danny Shelton from the Cleveland Browns.

Chalk up another deal for new Browns general manager John Dorsey, who has been amazingly active since Friday. This past season, the Browns finished seventh in the National Football League in rushing defense.

Shelton, a top D-linemen while at the University of Washington, was the 12th overall pick of the 2015 draft by the Browns. He had 33 tackles and one pass breakup in 14 games last season. According to ESPN, his "skill-set should fit well" in the Patriots' young, run-focused hybrid defense. ESPN reporter Adam Schefter summarized the flurry of comings and goings in a tweet Saturday following the Shelton deal.

'Bachelor' Arie and Lauren finally go to a restaurant
In part two of the finale on Tuesday, Arie tried and succeeded to get Lauren back, who he had dumped in favor of Becca. Andi Dorfman, whose engagement also ended before a trip down the aisle, said: 'Hope you find love.

The 6-foot-2, 335-pound Shelton was a three-year letter victor for the Washington Huskies, and earned both first-team All-America and CoSIDA Academic All-America first-team honors in 2014.

Shelton will fill in nicely for the Patriots on early downs, as he should be a good replacement for Alan Branch. The 24-year-old started in a total of 44 games over the past three years with the Browns.

Shelton was a first rounder in 2015, so the Patriots will give him essentially a one-year audition and it's unlikely they will pick up his fifth year option as a former first rounder.

Shelton will join Malcom Brown, Lawrence Guy, Adam Butler and Vincent Valentine on the Patriots' defensive tackle depth chart. As of now, it is unclear if New England will exercise that option.
