Uhuru Kenyatta, Kenya's President, a long with Raila Odinga, the resistance leader, have vowed to combine the country after the death of almost one hundred people in battles between the opposition allies and the military forces.

The election season blunted growth in Kenya, East Africa's richest economy and a Western ally in a volatile region.

The three co-principals on Friday released a joint statement saying they were kept in the dark about the Friday meeting between President Kenyatta and Odinga at Harambee House. "We refuse to be the leaders under whose watch Kenya slid into a failed nation".

Mr Odinga said it was "time to resolve our differences". "Elections come and go, but Kenya remains", Kenyatta said.

Friday's breakthrough came just hours before U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson's first official visit Kenya.

About 150 people were killed in the aftermath of the disputed election.

In January, Odinga took a symbolic presidential oath in a Nairobi park in a direct challenge to Kenyatta.

The photo of Williams and the man was shared on Facebook by Laura Wolf , who was touched by the young woman's gesture. That's when Wolf snapped the photo, which has since gone viral on social media. "I got my own day", Williams said.

Political analyst and writer Patrick Gathara said such a dialogue is still needed despite Friday's meeting.

Odinga said: "the conflict is over" and called on the country to "reconcile and move on".

A statement signed by Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula stated that they were not part of the meeting.

Speaking during the meeting with Tillerson, President Kenyatta hailed the presence of top American companies in Kenya: "Leading US multinationals such as IBM, Microsoft, Google, General Electric, Coca Cola, and Bechtel, to name but a few, have opened their regional offices in Kenya; thereby providing themselves with the best platform to access the vast African market".

"The US should not be dismissed or discounted".

That kind of public pressures augurs well for the success of the two leaders' efforts, both of whom made concessions to get the process underway.

With the country at breaking point and growing political and economic injustices reigniting deeply ethnic hatreds, Raila Odinga chose yet again a path he often has: the path of negotiation rather than confrontation to right the wrongs and protects the people from the horrors that this drawn-out, looming conflict posed.
