A Second Winter Storm Is Coming. How Much Snow? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • Philadelphia storm forecast

In areas where a mix or rain occurs, there will be a changeover back to snow before the storm departs, and that will likely accumulate to a plowable snow.

The National Weather Service Winter Storm Warnings continue for most of southeast Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey, except on the coast. But New York City students hoping for a snow day shouldn't hold their breath.

Vermont, New Hampshire, and ME may see up to 18 inches of snow.

It mentions Kent County as one of the areas near the snow-rain line where it's hard to predict snowfall. I opted to add a fourth color contour to my snow map, in an effort to add some more detail to the forecast. Follow him on Facebook or Twitter for the latest forecast and realtime weather updates.

Moderate flooding was observed at tide gauges in Scituate, Massachusetts, and Boston Harbor last Friday morning.

Other stations across the Northeast are branding their coverage under their normal weather branding or using combinations of references to snow, winter and Nor'easters.

The storm is expected to pack wind gusts of 30 to 50 miles per hour.

As of 9 p.m., the region's three electric utilities reported a total of more than 27,000 outages in Orange, Ulster and Sullivan counties.

Initial bursts of rain and snow moved overnight from Washington, D.C., to New York City with some areas already seeing as much as 3 inches.

Northeast winds on Wednesday will become northwest on Wednesday night. Heavy snow and strong winds are making travel almost impossible on most highways in eastern South Dakota.

Although New York City was originally expecting much higher snowfall totals, those predictions have now been reduced as of the time of publication.

This is the second winter storm in five days to impact us, and the second coastal storm in five days.

Philadelphia may see 4-6 inches, after Washington, D.C., got about half an inch, and Baltimore may see 1-2 inches.

Boston and New York City only saw a trace of snow from Riley while Philadelphia picked up 1.5 inches.

Shortly after noon Wednesday, the Augusta Police Department issued a citywide parking ban from 6 p.m. Wednesday through noon Friday.

Tonight: An inch or two of light snow, maybe mixed with rain, will fall tonight.

The winter storm could bring snowfall as high as 12 inches in these areas, though NWS representatives mentioned the forecast is still in the early stages so estimates could change.

The immediate coast and Midcoast areas will see 10-14 inches.

Officials have posted advisories urging people not to travel on many South Dakota roads which are snow-packed and icy. Northern York, western Cumberland and southern Oxford counties could see higher amounts.

However, as of 3:42 p.m. Eastern, the NWS was predicting possibly four to eight inches of heavy snow in New Jersey, southern CT, and southeast NY, from midnight through 4 a.m. Thursday.
