'Sex and the City' star considers run against New York's Cuomo

She's apparently forming a campaign staff, including "two former operatives" of New York City mayor Bill de Blasio - Rebecca Katz and Bill Hyers.

The 51-year-old actress is best known for her portrayal of Miranda Hobbes, the frisky but cynical lawyer who romped through six seasons and two movies of "Sex and the City".

"Many concerned New Yorkers have been encouraging Cynthia to run for office, and as she has said previously", Nixon publicist Rebecca Capellan said in a statement. "If and when such a decision is made, Cynthia will be sure to make her plans public".

"We're hoping that somebody comes forward, and we're hoping that either Stephanie or Cynthia Nixon run, but neither one has indicated to us that they are near a decision", said Arthur Schwartz, an organizer for the New York Progressive Action Network. When asked about the possibility of Cynthia running for governor, Mr. Andrew said on Tuesday, March 6, "On people who may or not run for governor on both sides of the aisle, we'll deal with that as it progresses".

If Gov. Cuomo is anxious about "Sex and the City" actress Cynthia Nixon challenging him in a primary he's not showing it. Nixon has been one of the mayor's most visible supporters, and her wife, Christine Marinoni, works in his administration as a special adviser for community partnerships in the Department of Education.

Nixon has been very vocal about the importance of women and people of color running for office.

Ms. Nixon was on the stage in January as Mr.de Blasio was sworn in for a second term. Other candidates in the mix at the time were Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner and former State Legislator Terry Gipson.

Nixon has been outspoken critic of Cuomo's education policies. He won 62 percent of the vote against Zephyr's 34 percent of vote.
