  • Giants trade two picks for Rams linebacker Alec Ogletree

According to ESPN.com, the Rams are shipping linebacker Alec Ogletree to the Giants in a trade that also involves multiple draft choices. Besides dealing away Ogletree and Quinn, they were also involved in a third trade that brought Marcus Peters to Los Angeles.

The fourth-round pick the Rams will receive is the Giants' second selection of that round and is a compensatory pick.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity Wednesday because National Football League trades can't be announced until March 14. Ogletree was no longer a fit for the team's defense, and the Giants get the 26-year-old, along with the four-year deal he signed in October.

Last year, he had one of his best seasons yet under new defensive coordinator Wade Phillips.

The trade of Ogletree seemingly improves the chances for the Rams to keep fellow veteran linebacker Mark Barron, who carries a $28 million salary cap hit over the next three seasons.

The Giants' beefing up of James Bettcher's linebacking corps has begun. He was one of the leaders on the defense, and was voted as a captain the past two seasons.

Ogletree was a first-round pick out of Georgia in 2013 and started all but one game he appeared in for the Rams since. He is due a $2 million roster bonus next week.
