Attorney General Jeff Sessions has railed against

The attorney general ripped California for flouting federal immigration law with its "sanctuary" policies.

Sessions flew to Sacramento to mark the occasion with a speech Wednesday morning to a meeting of the California Peace Officers Association, which had opposed SB 54.

Sessions and the Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against the state of California over its Sanctuary State status.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions launched a strident defense Wednesday of the Trump administration's legal challenge to California state laws that shield illegal immigrants from federal authorities, proclaiming that "immigration law is the province of the federal government".

Sessions received a polite if not warm reception from law enforcement officials, even when he told them his goal was to make their jobs safer.

"The provisions of state law at issue have the goal and effect of making it more hard for federal immigration officers to carry out their responsibilities in California", the complaint filed in Sacramento states. In a 44-page affidavit filed with the suit, Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Thomas Homan laid out the many ways the state was hampering his ability to detain undocumented immigrants, from not sharing information to banning agents from prisons to shutting down ICE's access to the state's gang database.

"At a time of unprecedented political turmoil, Jeff Sessions has come to California to further divide and polarize America". The Department of Justice declined to comment when asked this week about whether a probe was underway.

Broadcom Pledges 5G Investment to Win Qualcomm Deal Approval
Qualcomm , with its Snapdragon processors, is the world's biggest maker of mobile chips and an attractive target for Broadcom . Qualcomm's shares slipped 41 cents to $64.33, while Broadcom's were down $1.46 at $249.41.

Sessions is set to speak on the matter and noted that they plan to win their case against "these unjust, unfair and unconstitutional policies that have been imposed".

The Supreme Court reinforced the federal government's primacy in enforcing immigration law when it blocked much of Arizona's tough 2010 immigration law on similar grounds. In response to this sanctuary state law, the Trump administration had chose to bring the state into court, suing Democratic Gov. Sessions had strong words for Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, who issued an unusual public warning last month that she was tipped off that an immigration operation was imminent, perhaps within 24 hours.

The 10 amendment of the U.S. Constitution "provides California with the right to decline to participate in civil immigration enforcement", Becerra said.

"I say: Bring it on", said California Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de Leon, a Los Angeles Democrat who wrote the so-called sanctuary state bill.

The lawsuit is also of note because it is the first to place a state against the Justice Department and the DOJ's ongoing behavior in regards to immigration. Jerry Brown (D), is in his final year in office.

Demonstrator Henry Gordon of Sacramento said he hopes Sessions gets the message that Californians will resist efforts to separate families and deport immigrants.

Brown speculated that Sessions' dig on California may be an attempt to ease an openly rocky relationship with the president, saying, "Maybe he's trying to keep his job because the president is not too happy with him". California legislature and the governor by signing the bill, put us on a position that we have to go to court. He claims 800 "wanted criminals" eluded arrests as a result. On Wednesday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions appeared in Sacramento, where he announced the lawsuit while expressing outrage in what can only be characterized as a lecture.
