  • Russians win hockey gold with 4-3 OT win over Germany

This comes after the International Olympic Committee said remaining test results from Russians who competed in the games came back negative.

The country had been hopeful it could be reinstated for the closing ceremony, but two Russian athletes failed drug tests during the Pyeongchang Games and the suspension was not lifted during the Olympics.

However, the Olympic Committee allowed more than 160 Russians to compete individually at the 2018 Olympics.

At the Pyeongchang Games, another two Russian athletes tested positive for doping. The IOC confirmed the suspension had been lifted in a brief statement.

The Russian government has denied any state involvement in the doping plot but a top sports official, Vitaly Mutko, now Russia's deputy prime minister, was suspended by the International Olympic Committee for life.

They had all been required to prove they were clean before the Games.Under the neutrality rules, the Russians were unable to wear national uniforms or have their anthem played at medal presentations, although the ice hockey team sang the national anthem on Sunday.

Turkey requests Syrian Kurdish leader's extradition
Czech police confirmed Muslim's arrest, and said in a statement, " Ankara Interpol staff were informed of the arrest". New "red notices" were issued on February 13, with officials offering just over $1 million for his return.

The scandal meant that the Olympic team from Russian Federation could not use national colours or flag for the closing ceremony in Pyeongchang as originally hoped.

Russian Federation topped the medals table after the Games - but lost that position when athlete after athlete was disqualified following the retesting of samples.

The ban, which initially resulted from the McClaren Report in 2015, which exposed a massive state-run doping operation, prohibited Russian Federation from marching under its own flag and being awarded medals as a country in the 2018 Winter Olympics.

Krushelnitsky had his bronze medal stripped after admitting doping and investigations are continuing into both cases. As NPR's Bill Chappell has reported, their athletes could still compete - but under the title of "Olympic Athlete from Russian Federation".

The ROC also paid a fine of $15 million as part of its efforts to have the Olympic ban lifted, although Russian officials have repeatedly denied state involvement in doping.
