  • Russia pays $15mn for IOC membership reinstatement may be allowed to wave flag at closing ceremony

Russia's national Olympic committee was suspended in December over systemic drug-cheating that reached its apex at the Sochi 2014 Olympics.

Sergeeva's positive test is ironic, really, as in the run-up to this year's Winter Olympics she was filmed wearing a shirt saying "I Don't Do Doping" under her training shirt.

According to the Russian bobsleigh federation's Facebook post, Nadezhda Sergeeva tested positive for a banned heart medication February 18.

That followed Russian curler Alexander Krushelnitsky being stripped of his bronze medal after being found guilty of doping. It was then decided athletes who were deemed clean would be allowed to compete under the Olympic flag as "OAR", or, the Olympic Athletes from Russian Federation.

International Olympic Committee spokesman Mark Adams said following news of Sergeeva's failed test: "We are always extremely disappointed when there is a doping case, from whichever nation it happens to be".

The 30 year-old Sergeeva has previously failed a test for Meldonium, becoming one of over 100 athletes to fall foul of the drug's re-classification in 2016.

Some of her most notable performances include films like Himmatwala , Chaalbaaz , Sadma , Mr India , Aakhree Raasta, Nagina . She fell in love with the much married producer Boney Kapoor , giving ample fodder for the gossip mills.

This despite the fact that Sergeeva showed off a sweatshirt that said "I don't do doping" earlier this month in an "unofficial advertisement" for ZaSport, which supplies Russian Olympic athletes' clothing, VICE reports.

The Associated Press reported that Nadezhda Sergeeva tested positive for trimetazidine. Russian bobsleigh official Sergei Zhurkin told reporters at the Olympic sliding centre: "At this moment she can't say where she made a mistake".

There had been indications earlier during the Games, that the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which suspended Russian Federation over evidence of a state-sponsored doping system, could lift the ban in time for the closing ceremony, allowing the country's flag to be displayed.

It added that a test on 18 February came back positive but a previous one on 13 February had showed a clean result.

Sergeyeva had said initially that she took no medication. Still, with Russian Olympians and doping, you can't make it up.
