(Note: The Atlantis and Shuttle Launch Experience exhibits are closed today, February 20.) SpaceX's booster display comes as Vice President Mike Pence heads to KSC for the second meeting of the National Space Council.

The 5.2-meter (17.1-foot) diameter payload fairing jettisons once the Falcon 9 rocket ascends through the dense lower atmosphere. Paz satellite will be used for military and civilian purposes. SpaceX will send the Falcon 9 rocket into orbit along with the observational satellite, PAZ, and two other demonstration satellites.

Stay tuned to Aerospace Journal for more on the crewed missions, as well as upcoming updates on SpaceX's next flight of the Falcon Heavy.

What's In The Falcon 9 Payload?

SpaceX has a good reason to want to recover the Falcon 9's payload fairing.

According to SeaTran, the company that owns Mr. Steven, the vessel is 205 feet (62 meters) long, can travel up to 32 knots (36.8 miles per hour, or about 59 km/h) and has a deck measuring 136 feet by 27 feet (41 by 8 m). And you might recall the last time SpaceX launched a rocket from Vandenberg in December. Although SpaceX has not talked publicly about these fairings, they represent an upgrade over previous iterations, and the company will make an effort to recover them from the Pacific Ocean.

Together with the Paz on the mission, there will be two experimental Microsat satellites which will be used for a 20-month test of technology for Starlink, a network of thousands of satellites which could be capable of delivering 5G service to billions of people. The estimated cost the fairing is around $6 million. The remaining parts of the Falcon 9 rocket are already prepared for the new launch after being recycled. The two side boosters separated from the Falcon Heavy's center core and returned to Earth, making dual landings on SpaceX pads at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.

SpaceX recovered a payload fairing for the first time in 2017.

FCC chairman Ajit Pai praised the so-called Starlink project for attempting to bring internet into those parts of the USA where it is a rare commodity.
