Google Launches Ad-Blocker for Chrome

Google announced the move to curtail full-page and auto-playing video ads past year.

Those ads which repeatedly show up on the website and fail to comply with the standards, will be blocked by Chrome based on the number of complaints against it.

The goal here is to encourage the industry to shift away from intrusive, objectionable ads that have tended to discourage people from using the web. According to Google, only 1.5 percent of websites it audited failed to meet its ad standards, and only about 40 percent of those websites have made acceptable changes so far.

"It's clear that annoying ads degrade what we all love about the web", said Rahul Roy-Chowdhury, Vice President, Chrome, in a blog post.

Following months of speculation, analysis and debate, Google's "ad-blocking version" of its internet Chrome browser has finally arrived today (February 15) on mobile and desktop.

Chrome for mobile devices will block all of the aforementioned advertisements - including all prestitial ads - as well as animated flashing ads, full screen scroll-over ads, and "dense" ads which cover up more than 30% of the vertical height of a webpage. "For too long, we have accepted intrusive, inappropriate and at times creepy ads online, but Google's adoption of ad blocking software is an important step in re-building trust with consumers".

For desktop users, the notification in Chrome's address bar will look similar to Chrome's existing pop-up blocker.

Ronaldo v Neymar? It's Real Madrid v PSG! - Zidane
Recent signing Lassana Diarra is expected to come into the PSG line-up against the club he represented between 2009 and 2012. Defensively, however, he was caught out of position on several occasions, especially during Spurs' 3-1 win at Wembley.

About 50 percent of Americans access the internet through Chrome.

Google's ad-blocker will not be the blanket advertising stopper that many third-party ad blockers provide.

What are your thoughts on the ad-blocking Chrome browser? Companies like Google and Facebook support this group's efforts to make the web less annoying. However, the rampant and largely unorganized manner that sites had started to display ads led to the rise of a distinct class of plugins, that of ad blockers.

Google said that websites are evaluated by examining a sample of pages from the site.

It seems that a lot of site owners got the message before it could even become a problem.

Quite frankly, after one too many loud videos blasting unbidden from a web page while I was trying to work, Google's plans can't happen soon enough.
