Previously, getting a phone through the program meant you couldn't customize the background wallpaper of the lock screen.

Amazon has announced it is dumping the lock-screen ads from its Prime Exclusive Phone program.

Amazon recognizes the customers rely on phone manufacturers lockscreens for security such as facial recognition, as well as using the lockscreen for personalization. Phone Scoop claims that the cost of every Prime Exclusive Phone will increase by $20 once the ad-free update goes into effect on February 7th. The program previously offered Prime members access to significantly discounted phones with the catch being that buyers would have to put up with ads on the lockscreen and some Amazon bloatware pre-installed on the phone. Here's the full statement. These handsets are (as the name implies) only available to Amazon Prime subscribers, and they are offered at a discount compared to the normal pricing.

Starting tomorrow, Amazon is evolving the program so that there will no longer be lockscreen offers and ads as an option.

Eight Turkish troops killed in deadliest day of Syria operation
Meanwhile, the Turkish command says some 900 Kurdish fighters have been "neutralized" so far, the state news agency Anadolu reports .

In its FAQ, Amazon spins the change as "Amazon being nice" by saying, "This change allows you to personalize your Prime Exclusive Phone's lock screen and to more easily use your phone's unlock technologies, such as facial recognition and fingerprint sensors".

ALSO: This update to an experience with no ads on the lockscreen will also apply to users that already own Prime Exclusive Phones.

Still, the phones will continue to come pre-loaded with Amazon apps, so you're still buying into the retailer's ecosystem. There will also be a Special Offers widget on the home screen. Essentially, it means that Amazon Prime members can now buy certain Android phones for a lower cost than nearly anywhere else, without the compromise of dealing with Amazon ads on their lock screens.
