The House Intelligence Committee may vote on releasing the memo, which some House Republicans have claimed contains "disturbing" information on how the law was used to target the Trump campaign.

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) said on "The Story" on Thursday that the memo is indeed as damning as some lawmakers have claimed, and the American people have a right to see it.

While members of Congress are expected to receive access to those texts, the DOJ is still hesitant to allow them to publicly release Nunes' memo.

He added that neither Mr. Nunes nor most of the committee members had even seen the highly classified materials on which the memo appears to be based - and the release of which could be damaging to national security.

Some in the GOP believe the memo could derail Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential campaign.

In its opening language, the memo says that its objective is to brief lawmakers on the findings of the Intelligence Committee's investigation into actions by the Department of Justice and the FBI, according to a Democrat familiar with the document; the actions had to do with an application for a warrant under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act in connection with Mueller's investigation.

Trump sends clarification letter to African leaders amid 'shithole' scandal
The letter came ahead of the 30th AU summit in Addis Ababa in Ethiopia, which is now taking place. The African Union, which is made up of 55 member states, also took issue with Trump's remarks.

In other words, the memo is garbage.

Nevertheless, Republicans within the committee are going forward with the process of releasing the memo and an unidentified source who is supportive in releasing the FISA memo told Fox News that Boyd's letter will not alter Republicans' determination to issue the memo possibly sometime next week. A letter sent to Nunes this week from Assistant Attorney General Stephen E. Boyd urged that the document not be released before DOJ had a chance to review it for possible national security damage.

It's naturally become a partisan flashpoint, with Republicans siding with Nunes and Democrats coming out against the memo, accusing it of being willfully misleading.

Its author, Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., and some of his GOP colleagues on the House Intelligence Committee want to declassify it, and may vote to do so as soon as Monday.

But he has stood idly by while members - and media allies - have spun dark conspiracies without supporting evidence: That releasing the memo and texts between two supposedly corrupted former Mueller staffers would prove a "secret society" inside the Federal Bureau of Investigation plotting to undermine Trump's election and subsequent administration.

"Apparently all the rumors are that ... it will help the investigators come to a conclusion", the official said.
