  • Gunmen Attack Kabul Military Academy Security Sources

Heavy firing and explosions began near the Marshal Fahim National Defense University at around 5 am, The Guardian reported.

TOLOnews journalist Gulabuddin Ghubar reports from the area that security forces have blocked off all roads in the area.

A military academy in the Afghan capital, Kabul, has come under attack leaving at least two soldiers dead, days after more than 100 people were killed in an explosion near the interior ministry building.

She says two of the militants detonated suicide vests, two were shot and one was captured.

Mr Waziri said the attack carried out by five insurgents.

Proposed Illinois law would ban kids under 12 from playing tackle football
The state's House of Representatives has introduced a bill that would ban children under 12 from playing tackle football. Among those speaking in support of the act on Thursday were two former Chicago Bears: Otis Wilson and Mike Adamle.

Officials said the attack was on an army battalion near the academy where high-ranking officers are trained and which was initially identified as the target. The assault, which left two dead and 12 injured, was later claimed by the Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) terrorist group.

Security officials at the scene said the gunmen had used a ladder to get over a wall into the post. Smaller blasts at less frequent intervals could still be heard, Kabul resident Mohammad Ehsan said. There have been no reports of casualties so far.

News agency AFP cited a police spokesman confirming rocket and gunfire but saying it was now calm.

In October a Taliban suicide bomber killed 15 Afghan army trainees as they travelled home from the Marshal Fahim academy.

The Daesh terror group, which has a foothold in Afghanistan's east and north, claimed responsibility. It comes a week after militants stormed a Kabul hotel and killed scores in a 12-hour standoff.
