  • Fire breaks out in Trump Tower in Manhattan New York 2 injured

Part of US President Donald Trump's 58-story midtown Manhattan skyscraper, Trump Tower, caught fire Monday morning. Sakowich said all the smoke and steam was a result of the cold weather. It's not known if the injured are civilians ore firefighters.

The fire department is on the scene, the police spokesman said. He is scheduled to appear at an event in Tennessee Monday afternoon.

As firefighters battled the blaze, a plume of smoke spewed from the roof of the 68-story structure, which had been Trump's primary residence before his election victory and inauguration almost a year ago. Fire officials said the fire was contained to the roof and never entered the building.

The building is the headquarters for the Trump Organization and a residence for President Trump. "The men and women of the #FDNY are true heros and deserve our most honest thanks and praise!"

Update: This article has been updated to reflect Associated Press reports that the fire caused three injuries, up from earlier reports of two injuries.
