Global travelers at multiple airports took to social media Monday evening express their displeasure after they faced delays and long lines during processing.

Several major airports experienced a "temporary outage with its processing systems" for about two hours, according to an agency spokeswoman.

Global travelers returning to the US on New Year's Day faced massive frustration nationwide as the computer systems operated by Customs and Border Protection failed.

Customs officers still had security to national security databases, Garbis said.

A few minutes later, another tweet said the customs processing issue was resolved.

According to the CBS News, there were up to 2,000 passengers stuck in lines at the Miami International Airport.

"CBP took immediate action to address the technology disruption", the agency said in a statement.

Although the systems are working again, San Diego travelers may still face a backlog of lines and delays.

CBP also said it does not believe the outage was due to a malicious disruption.

Customs and Border Protection said its officers continued to process travelers using "alternative procedures" during the outage.

CBP has not given any further explanation of what caused the disruption in the system.
